Joanne Fleisher, LCSW
I’m a licensed clinical social worker in private practice in Philadelphia and am certified as an Imago Relationship Therapist and a Family Therapist. As a seasoned therapist, I’ve worked with individuals, couples, and families focusing on a full range of emotional problems, negotiating life transitions and losses, and helping people find and maintain healthy, happy relationships.
I received my therapy training at the Bryn Mawr Graduate School of Social Work. Prior to my full-time practice, I was the Director of Counseling at Women In Transition, a program for women in abusive relationships. In the mid-80’s I helped create the first women-owned healthcare facility, the Elizabeth Blackwell Health Center in Philadelphia, and became interim director when it opened. I’ve been a faculty member of the Philadelphia Institute for Family Therapy and have consulted with organizations to develop psycho-educational groups for specific populations, such as incest survivors and people facing relationship losses. In addition, I provide training and supervision for therapists.
I combine my professional and life experiences to inform my work, having had two primary intimate relationships, dealt with blended-family issues, and parented two children, now happily married, and each with two children of their own. I enjoy working with people from different backgrounds and cultures. While respecting each client’s particular ways of seeing the world, I help them to expand their sense of what’s possible.
